April 30 -May 1 - 2018 Las Vegas, Nevada

We have entered a totally different world! (Is it the same world?)
After almost a month of living in nature, we came to stay in Las Vegas April 30 - May 1.
We have entered a place, that is TOTALLY man-made. TOTALLY artificial. TOTALLY DIFFERENT!!!!!

We have been in Las Vegas before – about 22 years ago, so we knew what to expect. (The place we stayed in then has been demolished (brudt ned) and has been replaced by a Trump Tower) Las Vegas still fascinates us.
Everything is bright, shining, loud, moving. Lots of people (and that on a weekday in May), lots of noise, lots of color and light (supposedly one of few places you can see from space at night).
Way over the top….

Here is some of what we saw. (Once again, the camera can not capture reality.)

Monday night we went downtown to the old part of Las Vegas.

This place gives free food to people weighing over 350 lbs. (ca. 160 kg)!
There is even a scale for weighing yourself.

This creature did a "song and dance" number, throwing fire out of it's antennae

When in Vegas...
Tuesday night we went to the strip

The Venetian is something else. It is build around a Venice (Venedig) theme.
And they went all in! It has canals where you can take gondola tours.
A copy of the Marcus square. It is all inside (on the 2nd floor (anden sal)) !!
The ceiling has been painted like the sky (himmel), so you have a very realistic feeling of being outside.

But the other casinos are also VERY impressive.

Caesars Palace is HUGE
Bellagio has a botanic garden (as far as we could tell ALL plastic!)

Part of "The Strip" - A Coke bottle with an elevator inside

This is New York New York. They were building this casino, when we were here 22 years ago. It was fun to see it finished.

Not only did they have New York and Venice,
they also had Paris here!

Bellagio had a water show at their fountain

We HAD to see the flamingo habitat
at "Flamingo"
(The birds here were about the only thing
we saw, that was real!)

Vegas by night

And...a volcano erupting! (at the Mirage)
The number of casinos, stores and restaurants in each hotel/casino, hotel rooms, gambling tables, slot machines (spilleautomater), the size of the buildings, etc. etc. is just unbelievable. 25 of the largest 35 hotels in the world are in Las Vegas! From 2500 to almost 6000 rooms (værelser) each. (The MGM Grand has 5700 rooms !!)
And then there is just as much outside the casinos.

All out in the middle of a desert, unproductive, just for fun, but nevertheless you can’t help being impressed and overwhelmed by the whole thing.

  1. We heard that SHOPPING in Vegas has beat out gambling as the number one activity - and money maker!! It is an amazing place (not necessarily in a good way)!!!
