Saturday, the 21st we made a very short move. 65 miles / ca.
100 km.
We moved from Golden to Loveland, Colorado, near the Rocky Mountains National Park.
We may have moved up too far, too early. Latitude and
altitude (breddegrad og højde), because when we woke up Saturday morning we had
this view from the door of our camper. We moved from Golden to Loveland, Colorado, near the Rocky Mountains National Park.
They were warning about a winter storm for Friday evening and Saturday morning, so we were not sure if we were even going to be able to move on. But luckily, there wasn’t as much snow as they had predicted, and it was warm enough, so most of the snow melted again, when it hit the roads. It looks like the weather people here like to exaggerate as much as the ones in Denmark.
The weather was also pretty rotten when we got to Loveland, so the day got set aside for laundry and cleaning (tøjvask og rengøring).
Sunday, the 22nd, was a totally different story. Bright sunshine, no wind and temperatures in the upper 60ies (ca. 20C).
Our goal for the day was Rocky Mountains National Park.
What can we say about the Rocky Mountains.... They run 3000 miles (4800 km) from Canada to New Mexico. The highest point is 14400 feet (ca. 4400 m) above sea level. There are many places you can see the Rocky Mountains, but since they placed the Rocky Mountains National Park in Colorado, we thought that would be a good place to start.
And we were not disappointed.
Part of the park is still closed because of snow. We made it as high as approximately 10000 feet (3000 m).
We did all the roads that were open. It was one postcard view after another.
We also saw Big Horn Sheep. |
