April 24 - 2018 Draper, Utah

Another couple of days in transfer. Monday, the 23rd, we did the longest stretch so far in one day. 420 miles / ca. 670 km. Pretty much across the Rocky Mountains. We went up to I-80 in Wyoming and then more or less straight west just before the Utah border, where we stayed in Evanston, Wyoming

Tuesday, we only went 95 miles / ca 150 km to Draper, Utah (a suburb (forstad) of Salt Lake City).

We expected a long, boring, and maybe a bit challenging, drive since we were crossing the Rocky Mountains. We were between 6000 ft and 7500ft (ca. 1800-2300 meter) all the way, so the climbs were not bad at all. No snow, sunshine all the way, but some strong winds now and then.
The drive turned out to be very pleasant with changing landscapes from plains in the first part of Wyoming to very different looking mountains. Tuesday, we had a very steep descent towards Salt Lake City. But a very pretty one.

We passed the Continental Divide (for the Danes: it is roughly a line running north/south in the Americas. Waters west of the Continental Divide run into the Pacific Ocean (Stillehavet). Waters to the east run into the Atlantic Ocean (Atlanterhavet) and the Gulf of Mexico.

Some images from the 500 miles:
Endless plains

Not many states will allow that
kind of speed. So far we have
only seen it in Texas and Utah

Endless roads

Not everything is going to plan every day. Tuesday morning, I dropped my glasses (briller) on the floor and they hit at the wrong angle (the optometrist (optikeren) called it the right angle)! It’s all in the eyes of the beholder (det sete afhænger af øjnene der ser) One of the lenses (glas) broke and that is not good for somebody with as poor eyesight as me. Especially with all our driving.
When we came to Draper Tuesday afternoon we found an optometrist. Expecting to order some new glasses and then pick them up somewhere a couple of states over. Well I would be able to get them within 3-4 hours!!! I am amazed. Bifocals (læsefelt) and everything. And they even had an eyedoctor (øjenlæge) in the store to examine my eyes!!  They had a 2 for 1 deal, so I ordered another pair with special lenses. That pair, we will have to pick up later though. I have had glasses since I was 7 and I have NEVER before had a pair of extra glasses that weren’t broken one way or the other !! 😊😊
And the whole thing was less than half of what I would have had to pay in Denmark!!
