April 9 - 2018 Camp Verde, Arizona

Monday, the 9th, we made another short move. 115miles / 185 km from Phoenix to Camp Verde, Arizona. We will be doing shorter moves for a while, which will be nice after some of the really long hauls we did last week. This one was short enough that we could also do some sightseeing.

We went to the area around Sedona, which is surrounded by a lot of red cliffs/mountains.

This was like fall colors in New England revisited 😊. One great view after the other.

Every time we turned a corner there was another. We took lots of pictures and, as it was with the fall colors, a lot of them look the same 😊. And this is just the beginning of 3-4 weeks in canyon/ mountain country.

We also went to the city of Jerome. It is located at 5000 feet / 1500 m above sea level, so there is a steep (stejl) climb to get there. Supposedly the steepest town in the US.

Once one of the wildest mining towns in the west (copper) and at some point with 10.000 people (1920ies). Later (1960ies) it became one of the best known ghost towns (spøgelsesbyer), with only a couple of hundred people. Now it has around 500 people. 500 people and 1 million tourists!!
After travelling around last fall I began to come to the conclusion that tourism must have become the biggest industry in the world (especially after having seen Pigeon Forge and that whole circus).
Later on I stumbled over an article in the newspaper that said that 10% of the world population is getting its income from tourism, directly or indirectly and subsequently the biggest industry in the world!!
